Jon Ricker....

Jimmy Glenn Burk11/7/2013

Jon Story: I think Jon was a director at the time in SIS. I had a meeting on something over there, and was looking to trade my nissan maxima in. I walked by his office, then walked back to ask him a question. 'Jon, what is a 1989 maxima worth?' without asking how many miles...jon reached into his pocket pulled out an edmunds like book, and in 10 seconds gave me the price range for a trade-in; then without waiting for me to respond, went into sell mode....'I've got 5 new chevrolet blazers,,,,list for $23K, can sell you one for $16.9K????' ...I was lucky to get out of there before he closed the deal..... but he either sold FWS a car, or sold one for him.

Peter Dangerfield11/7/2013

Jimmy I wasn't as quick as you he sold me a raised roof van. I enjoyed it for a few years taking the family to Florida, then I got cough in a micro flood and drowned it!

Charlie Derrick11/8/2013

After going to The Limited, Jon was finding cars and executive planes for Les Wexner, the founder. Jon was working on a pretty sizable personal collection of '60s muscle cars when we last spoke.

One of the first centralized imaging systems to display airbills and enter data for billing. Done on an IBM RS60002. SuperHub imaging system developed in 1983, to send overnite letters and courier packs down an inclined track, a camera captured the image and sent to keyers in another area, who entered the zip code,,,,and paks were diverted into bags. Prototype was completed, but project cancelled when main Integrator went bankrupt.3. A 1990's followup system in Memphis and another city which scanned and weighed tens of thousands of letters/paks and sorted into bags, still in use.4. A mid 80's imaging system in the superhub where a camera captured the airbill at the primaries, and ocr'd the zip code and package was sorted. No Keyers needed.5. A late 90's system where image scanners were put into the stations, all airbills were scanned to a central system, to make all the information available for planning by midnight.6. A late 90's system that scanned and dimensionalized non conveyable freight for overweight packages. Generated $500M revenue a year.

Above answers correct: Answers: FedEx Trivia Quiz 1. One of the first centralized imaging systems to display airbills and enter data for billing. Done on an IBM RS600... POLARIS 2. SuperHub imaging system developed in 1983, to send overnite letters and courier packs down an inclined track, a camera captured the image and sent to keyers in another area, who entered the zip code,,,,and paks were diverted into bags. Prototype was completed, but project cancelled when main Integrator went bankrupt. D01 (D zero 1) Joe Williams wrote the Sort controllers, I programmed the System Director. A third party engineer wrote the imaging system on Perkin Elmer minicomputers and custom micro boards. 3. A 1990's followup system in Memphis and another city which scanned and weighed tens of thousands of letters/paks and sorted into bags, still in use. SPSS (Small Package Sort System); After the successful implementation of 2 cities, it was decided to supplement other cities with Purple Lights sortations for a smaller & cost effective system. 4. A mid 80's imaging system in the superhub where a camera captured the airbill at the primaries, and ocr'd the zip code and package was sorted. No Keyers needed. ZODIAC (An SIS Harry Dalton Project); Technology wasn't quite ready at the time, but would have worked, just a little slow 5. A late 90's system where image scanners were put into the stations, all airbills were scanned to a central system, to make all the information available for planning by midnight. GENESIS (spearheaded by Todd Hollenbeck and crew in Orlando) 6. A late 90's system that scanned and dimensionalized non conveyable freight for overweight packages. Generated $500M revenue a year. MSDS-Mass Scanning & Dimensioning System(Initiated in SIS, but transfered to me to finish and implement as I was made MD Scanning Systems; spearheaded by Brett Bonner & Mark Thomas). A follow on system by Gary Holmes, FutureOps) generated another $30M+ per year.

Jean Evans Kirksey11/8/2013

Thanks for sharing this info...I will be there!

Jimmy Glenn Burk11/9/2013

Since I can't make this meeting, would appreciate if one of you would ask the following question there, if you are able to attend: For Primary care you pay 20% or 30% of the doctor charges, but you pay all the lab work, till you meet the individual deductible. Is the 20% or 30% from what the doctor's list bill is, or the bill after the discount that shows on the cigna claims bills? and for the lab work is that list price or after some discount also? thanks, jimmy

Ray Lipham11/9/2013

Jimmy, I'll ask but I'm pretty darn sure we pay CIGNA negotiated rates regardless. I believe that is true even for services that CIGNA doesn't pay a nickel on. My wife once had a procedure done which CIGNA did not cover but CIGNA had a negotiated rate for the procedure. The doctor's office did not include that procedure on the claim they submitted to CIGNA for other covered services because they knew that if they submitted the procedure on the claim, CIGNA would reduce the procedure to the negotiated rate even though CIGNA did not pay a penny for the procedure. Instead, the doctor's office billed us directly for the procedure at the non-negotiated rate. I thought that was a bit unscrupulous and I wanted to call them on it but my wife was concerned that if we did, that might affect the quality of follow up care. We just ate the additional charge but I did follow-up with CIGNA and confirmed the rate that we should have been charged. That was the last time we did business with that doctor and we don't recommend them even though they have a pretty good reputation locally.

Jimmy Glenn Burk11/9/2013

thanks for the info; I am just adding up all the bills I had last year, to see which plan I should try

Marsha Terry Rider11/10/2013

As it happens I had a little scare at the ER a few months back so I have some rather current Billing (St. Fran) for comparison against the CY13 Active employee plan which should be the same as what you guys are on for CY13 Retiree, right?

Ray Lipham11/16/2013

@Jimmy, during the presentation, they stated that all medical claims are first processed by CIGNA at which point the negotiated rates are applied. The employee can't pay at the time of service because CIGNA first has to apply the negotiated rate, determine if funds are available for the expense in the employee's HRA, and determine if employee has met the deductible or exceeded the maximum out of pocket.

FedEx Trivia QuizAfter the Supertracker was deployed it was found that the trackers were not keeping a charge for a courier shift. Tens of thousands of batteries were being discarded for new batteries which also didn't keep a charge. In cases the batteries were melting.Ron Ponder asked Winn Stephenson to find out why? Winn told me to find out why, and I asked Bruce Lindow and his engineering group to find out why.Over 30 enhancements to the Suoertracker were made from that effort. What was the main problem why the Supertracker wouldn't stay charged?

Jimmy Glenn Burk11/17/2013

The batteries used in the SuperTracker weren't being charged, even though the Quadracks were continuously charging them. Timing on the batteries needed to be changed and the Smartbase & PCBase programmers made the changes suggested. The batteries had to be periodically drained and a charge slowly built up to recondition the batteries. A battery 'hospital' was designed to get the batteries into a chargeable condition. The tens of thousands of batteries thrown away, were good; and a recycling problem to send to Memphis was started, until the battery hospitals could be deployed.

I think everyone will get a good laugh from this. I just "borrowed" it from a friend:=======Due to the current financial situation caused by the slowdown in the economy, Congress has decided to implement a scheme to put workers of 50 years of age and above on early, mandatory retirement, thus creating jobs and reducing unemployment. This scheme will be known as RAPE (Retire Aged People Early).Persons selected to be RAPED can apply to Congress to be considered for the SHAFT program (Special Help After Forced Termination).Persons who have been RAPED and SHAFTED will be reviewed under the SCREW program (System Covering Retired-Early Workers).A person may be RAPED once, SHAFTED twice and SCREWED as many times as Congress deems appropriate.Persons who have been RAPED could get AIDS (Additional Income for Dependents & Spouse) or HERPES (Half Earnings for Retired Personnel Early Severance).Obviously persons who have AIDS or HERPES will not be SHAFTED or SCREWED any further by Congress.Persons who are not RAPED and are staying on will receive as much SHIT (Special High Intensity Training) as possible. Congress has always prided themselves on the amount of SHIT they give our citizens.Should you feel that you do not receive enough SHIT, please bring this to the attention of your Congressman, who has been trained to give you all the SHIT you can handle.Sincerely,The Committee for Economic Value of Individual Lives (E.V.I.L.)PS - Due to recent budget cuts and the rising cost of electricity, gas and oil, as well as current market conditions, the Light at the End of the Tunnel has been turned off

FedEx Trivia QuizA FedEx executive was getting phone calls thru the night, but when he answered no one would talk. This happened several times thru the night. He called Telecom to come check his phone system. What did the voice engr find was the problem? Who was the person getting the annoying phone calls?

Jimmy Glenn Burk11/20/2013

Answer: The voice tech went to the exec's house and checked the PBX that had been installed there. He couldn't find anything wrong with the phone. Sometime during the visit, the phone went off hook with a buzzing sound and checking the phone, it was a call from the intercom system. There was a phone extension in the pool house so he went outside to check that. As he came to the pool house, thru a window he saw a squirrel jumping up and down, banging into the window to get out. When he got tired, he rested, and continued to jump......the phone was right under this window....so the squirrel was making the calls. @ FWS home
