We flew home yesterday (May 17) leaving from John Wayne airport after a week's visit with our son in So. CA. We changed planes in DFW, and I saw two FedEx friends there at the gate - Bruce Lindow, and Brian Sneed. It was great seeing them both on the way back to MEM.

Brussels , intl expat coordinator.

Don Rose5/20/2014

Tokyo, Singapore, Hong Kong, Tai Pei, London, Dublin, Galway, Brussels to name a few.

Charles Morgan5/20/2014

Vietnam stands out in my mind. It was the rainy season in the Spring of 2001 when I visited Saigon, known even then as Ho Chi Minh City. The attached photo shows me standing in front of a US military fighter jet on display there, which even though it had been there for decades, had been repainted to look like new.

Dan Elliot5/20/2014

Expat in Paris and Brussels!

Bruce Lindow5/20/2014

In the 90's I travelled to quite a few places, like Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, China, Taiwan, and around Europe like, Scotland, England, France, Switzerland, Germany and Brussels, but the best place of all was to return home.

Deepest sympathy for Sheila Swain and her family. Ken Swain passed away yesterday. He was a friendly and wonderful person. I remember when Tom Stites & Chuck Sertich came to brief me on their interview for a new manager for which Ken had applied. They were blown away with his knowledge and maturity and how well he handled himself, and he was an excellent manager in LHSD.

Jere Bledsoe5/26/2014

So sad. Ken was a good manager and a good guy. He'll be missed by many.

Gary Phillips5/26/2014

Always a friendly energetic guy. Got to know him through softball. Sympathy to the family.

Note from Kevin Humphries Re: Larry Netter:After more than 30 years of service to FedEx, Larry Netter has made the decision to retire effective June 15, 2014. His incredible legacy will be remembered for many years to come.Larry started working at FedEx in 1983 as a Sr. Manager to lead a group that supported Zap Mail. This organization eventually became known as Technology Services in 1986 when the team began supporting additional equipment throughout the company.During his tenure at FedEx, Larry was responsible for implementing desktop management and the first enterprise email system. He also spent one year on special assignment in the United Kingdom and Europe building a service organization. In 2002, Larry assumed the role of VP of Technology Services, leading the largest IT team at FedEx for more than 12 years. While he is a four-time FedEx Five Star Award winner, he is most known for his philanthropic spirit in the community. Larry led the American Liver Foundation of the Mid-South’s annual golf tournament for many years, and he could always be found with a hammer in his hand on the first day of FedEx Habitat for Humanity builds. He was a 10-year board member of a non-profit school, a supporter of Forever Young, and started a laptop donation program for Operation Homefront in support of military families and veterans.I have worked closely with Larry over the years, and I have always appreciated his dedication to the company and his passion to put his team and customers first. He will be missed. Please join me in wishing Larry well on all of his future adventures!Kevin

Peter Dangerfield5/27/2014

Congratulations Larry, I hope you all the very best in retirement.

I can mark this one off my "Bucket List". That is, flying on the EAA's 1929 Ford Tri-motor vintage airliner. It was at West Memphis Airport, Arkansas today and the 25 minute flight was just awesome. I sat in the right seat next to the pilot and there were 9 other passengers on-board. I told the pilot that he made it look so easy to fly. Henry Ford's company built 199 of these airplanes between 1926 and 1933, and this particular airplane was # 146 off the production line. Enjoy the pix I took. It's powered by three 450 HP Pratt & Whitney radial engines, and the cruise speed was about 90 mph indicated. It only took about 600 feet of runway to become airborne. That wing has an awesome lift design.

Had a birthday dinner at Bonefish Grille last night for my daughter in law Cathy. Sitting right next to us was Paul & Angie Maynard and it was nice to talk with them. They are enjoying retirement. In fact, I haven't met anyone who retired who isn't enjoying the retirement phase of their lives. And with so much change and outsourcing going on at FedEx, I don't think it is as enjoyable as it once was to those of us who spent much of our life there.

Announcement from Denise Wood: I wanted to let you know that Belinda Watkins, IT VP, Enterprise Information and Security Engineering, has chosen to retire effective July 1, 2014. I know why so many people say “it is bittersweet” when announcing something like this because it is really hard to imagine working here without the counsel and support of Belinda. Belinda is a respected IT leader who has delivered valued results throughout her 17 years with FedEx. She leaves an outstanding legacy that includes humorous energy, respected insight and remarkable collaboration.Belinda has had many roles within the IT organization. Most recently she has been responsible for the strategy and operation of our global security infrastructure ensuring 100% availability of FedEx systems. During Belinda’s tenure our enterprise security position has been enhanced and new security technologies were embraced. As the Network Computing VP, she led the development of FedEx communication channels including voice, video, data networking and email. One of the accomplishments she is most proud of is consolidating the separate opco IT networks into a seamless FedEx IT network. She led the collaboration and built a single team to get this done quickly and cost effectively.Belinda would like to be remembered as a proponent of diversity at FedEx. As the first female African-American VP in FedEx IT, she served as a role model for many in the technology industry. It has been my privilege to work with Belinda and to call her a friend. I know many of you feel the same way. Her contributions and influences will be felt for a long while. We wish her well in life’s next chapter, but we will miss her passion and humor. Let’s take this opportunity to thank her for all she has contributed to FedEx throughout her career!dw

Shirley Lovelace Williams6/10/2014

I worked for Belinda the first time she worked for FedEx and she was a wonderful boss. I also worked for Denise Wood before she went to Hong Kong. It was a known fact that I ran all my bosses off. Denise was an excellent person to work for also.
