FedEx to buy TNT

FedEx to buy TNT

Peter Dangerfield4/7/2015

Who knows what TNT stands for, they were an Australian company many years ago when. I was growing up there, Like UPS here.

Dave Hansen4/8/2015

Shortly after the cessation of hostilities of World War 2 in Asia, Australian Ken Thomas set up Thomas Nationwide Transport with a single truck.

Jimmy Glenn Burk4/8/2015

John Schwarzmann who was a Managing Director at FedEx left to become the CTO of TNT Logistics 1994-1996

Peter Dangerfield4/8/2015

Both Dave and Jimmy are right.

Larry Tieman4/9/2015

When I was at GE Capital trying to put together a logistics company we were packed to go to Australia to do the due diligence when the Dutch jumped in and WAY overpaid.

Peter Dangerfield4/9/2015

Hi Larry how are you doing?

FedEx Trivia Poll 4/8/15:When I was hired in Feb 1980, I was told that there was a 'No Layoff Policy'.Were you told the same thing? and how did you interpret that policy?

Rebecca Felts4/8/2015

Yes I was told that but I never believed it or interpreted it as literally being true. I always used common sense about such stagements. If a company or the economy dipped any company would have to take measures to cut costs,(including layoffs), to save the greater majority of the company. Just think back to 2009 if any of you were still at FedEx. In fact there were two layoffs during my career. One shortly after Rob Carter became CIO. They had management "rate" their employees performance, etc. The ones that fell to the bottom were let go. Then the mortgage crisis came in 2009 and Fedex had to lower pay and let folks go then. This also included removing on-call pay. So I don't know if the "no layoff" was ever a written policy or just a verbal policy.

Eddie Garrison4/8/2015

I've been there 30 years and was a former zap mail person .. And they found s job for us .. I work in express and I don't know of anyone that's ever been laid off.. Granted we have taken couple of pay cuts and no merit raises but still working

Dan Elliot4/8/2015

Yes, I was told that also... it proved true until black friday...

FedEx Retiree Poll:Many of you retired, and have spent much of your life at FedEx. Today, what is your favorite memento that you kept from your years of service?(coffee cup, pin, photo, memo, shirt, plaque etc)

Jimmy Glenn Burk4/9/2015

Two of my favorites. For some reason I've always liked the international thingies they gave us from time to time, like the INTL pen; and when I havd my first staff meeting in LHSD, if was like herding cats. My admin(s) bought me a gavel to keep control, which I used there for about 5 years...

Jim Bentley4/9/2015

A DADS terminal! I spent an awful amount of time working with this device

Gary Phillips4/9/2015

My 401K

Marcie Littles Moss4/9/2015

My two favorite items are two plaques I received from Jim Colson. One, a BZ plaque received in FY'88 and the other a Star Award in 1996, the year before he passed away. I cherish those two items.

Sandy Bringhurst Howard4/9/2015

I love the 25 year plaque!

FedEx Trivia Poll 4/10/15:It's been almost 7 years since I retired, and it is as if it was yesterday. I don't miss going to all those meetings, but do miss the many talented and dedicated friends I worked with thru the years.Name a few of the friends you worked with and would like to see again..........and may you all have a great and sunny weekend!

Shirley Lovelace Williams4/10/2015

Kay Moody, Lisa Gross, Belinda Watkins, Pat Bryan, Denise Wood, Ruth Edwards (don't know her new name). I worked with many wonderful people the 22 years I was at FedEx. Have been retired 7 years.

Gary Phillips4/10/2015

I still see some of the folks I worked with......Roy Patterson (G'twn reserve cop), Ronnie Turner and chat with some online like Ron Foster (lives in Springfield, MO). The group I had the most fun with was Network Eng. (Denise Wood, Roy Beard, Tom Snyder, Belinda Watkins, etc). Don't get a chance to see them often. I do miss some of the people in my most recent job (like Reggie Shaw, Eden Pickle-Clark, Paul Maynard, Chuck Hogue, Chris Hammond, Susie Peek, Susie Langston (decessed), Heather Hannah.......on and on. Have gone back to visit a few times but things just don't seem the same. A lot of people have left Tech Services and the ones there seemed very stressed.

Shirley Lovelace Williams4/10/2015

Gary, I forgot about how wonderful you were to work with. I also enjoyed working with the Nertwork Eng. group. That was one of my first assignments.

Gary Phillips4/10/2015

A lot of people forgot that Shirley....lol. That group was a lot of fun....You, Irene Williams, Denise, Kay Moody, Jill Bradbury Greer, Bobby Simmons, Eddy Honeycut (decessed), etc.

Buddy Johnson4/16/2015

Hank Howell

Jim Barksdale moved into Charlie's slot when Charlie decided he didn't want to continue to develop a large IT group. Hank became VP reporting to JLB, and he was the VP when I got to FedEx in Feb 1980.

from Jim Thannum: This is to let you know Gloria passed away Monday, after complications from a heart valve replacement. She was a wonderful woman, and a great friend to many, and an unbelievable asset to FedEx during my 22 years at FedEx. We stayed in close contact after both retiring in May 2013, and she was “Auntie Glo” to my granddaughter, and a very close friend to my entire family. Actually she was part of my family, and will be greatly missed. Visitation is at Memorial Park on Poplar, Thursday 5-7pm, and the funeral is Friday at 11:30am also at Memorial Park. May God’s Blessing shine upon Gloria, Jim Thannum
