Just FYI, I monitor Germantown, Cordova & Lakeland facebook boards occasionally. In Germantown there have been 1/2 dozen postings on credit credit cards readers being hacked at gas stations & at Kroger and subsequent fraud. In Lakeland there have been a rash of car breakins and there were at least 3 on my street and two other subdivisions on Saturday night. Sheriffs have apprehended those criminals.

Jimmy.. When is FedEx's bday πŸŽ‚ & the year they started ??

Don Rose3/19/2016

Peter, FedEx first package flight was 4/17/73, which we kind of call our birthday. The company was incorporated in 1971. I started 2/1/73 with 4 others as the first "IT" group. We were called "Systems & Programming" back then.

Buddy Johnson3/19/2016

It's April 17....not sure of year but think it's 1973

Don Rose3/19/2016

It was 73.

Jimmy Glenn Burk3/19/2016

Good Question, the 'official' company start date for operations is listed as April 17, 1973 as I understand. I was still in college then. ---------------------------------------------------- Here are some other important dates: June 18, 1971 Federal Express was incorporated as a Delaware company based in Little Rock. Name included 'Federal' because the company anticipated getting a large Federal Reserve contract flying bank checks and paper. They lost the bid. Dec 1971 - Fred Smith commissions two separate consultant studies on making the corporation into a small package airline. He doesn't let each consultant company know about each other. 1. AT Kearnery, study led by Roger Frock 2. Former Pan Am employees (Art Bass, Vince Fagan & Tucker Taylor) Late 1972- FWS decides to move from Little Rock and build a sort hub in Memphis. He hires young engineer, Ted Weise to coordinate the move and hub build. March 12, 1973 FedEx launches service to 11 cities. Only gets 6 packages that night. Field operations continued but Falcon flights cancelled and airlines used for pkg transport, while the system was re-designed with Charlie Brandon coordinating. Study concluded they were mostly going to the wrong cities initially. April 17, 1973 FedEx Falcon flights resume as FedEx launches service with 25 cities. 186 packages that night.

FedEx Trivia History Quiz Answer any of the following:1. Name the consultant and author that developed FedEx's SFA (Survey Feedback Action) plan? 2. Why did the company develop SFA?3. From which other company's plans did FedEx consolidate to form the Guaranteed Fair Treatment Policy? 4. Why did the company develop this plan?

Deby Abbott Jolley3/21/2016

Inquiring minds....

Jimmy Glenn Burk3/22/2016

1. Name the consultant and author that developed FedEx's SFA (Survey Feedback Action) plan? Charles L. Hughes; and industrial psychologist for Texas Instruments and IBM 2. Why did the company develop SFA? The teamsters had attempted 3 times to unionize the field & mechanics; FWS wanted to know where the company was vulnerable. In 1978 FedEx contracted with a group at the Univ of Michigan to do a survey called the "Survey of Organizations",130 questions); the survey wasn't too much use; the company then contracted with Charles Hughes to develop a smaller survey called the SFA (Survey Feedback Action) The surveys of the first two years showed that employees considered the company Family and were proud to work there, but 34% of the employees did not believe 'have confidence in the fairness of management' 3. From which other company's plans did FedEx consolidate to form the Guaranteed Fair Treatment Policy? Marriott's grievance procedure IBM's "Speak Up" Delta's "Open Door" 4. Why did the company develop this plan? The company had grown fast and hired lots of supervisors and managers due to the promote from within policy. Many of the new supervisors and managers had little training. FWS determined that supervisors must learn to supervise and treat people with respect. It was started as an open door policy so grievances could be aired.

It's a philosophy, not a policy . If things went south , believe me there would hopefully be another "buyout" camouflage word for layoffs lol

Jodie Harden3/22/2016

I took the buyout in 2013 and never viewed it as a "camouflage" word for layoff. To me it was a "great blessing" along with a reward for many years of faithful service.

Susie Coyle Richardson3/22/2016

Some of us took the downsizing "walkout" 4/3/09. A very bad day but, in hindsight, a blessing. If it was necessary to keep the company fiscally strong, I was glad to go.

She advised me to always do the right thing and focus on doing the best that you can, until everyone else's opinion is irrelevant. She said that you have to make people believe that you are so good that they cannot do without you.

Subject: Some Retiree Medicare Notes

Jimmy Glenn Burk3/30/2016

Some Retiree Medicare NotesIf you are going on Medicare this year here are a few things to note:If you sign up for your supplement, drugs, dental or vision using OneExchange, they set flags that allow re-imbursement of the $85/month stipend that FedEx gives retirees and spouses. Otherwise you have to submit paperwork when you have paid premiums. The $85 times the number of months you will be on Medicare that year are deposited into an account for you. I originally thought they gave you $85 when the first of the month came around, but they deposit the total for the year into your account. When you pay premiums, OneExchange will cut you checks if you signed up thru them. I wanted to do auto deposit but the checks started coming before I was allowed access thru the system. When you have signed up for the medigap supplement, drugs, dental or vision, you will start getting cards and information in the mail. some of these plans you have to go ahead and pay the first month ahead of time. You are allowed to stay on the FedEx dental and vision plans, for 18 months, but don't receive any information about this until about 3 weeks before your 65th birthday; so you might want to wait before signing up for dental/vision until you get that information.OneExchange agents were very well trained and can provide you with lots of options, they don't try to sell you on one or another but look for the cheapest prices, even if that is only a few dollar savings a month to you.I highly recommend starting a notebook with dividers to put all the paperwork you will be getting, because it will be a lot.A notebook for each person. Dividers at least for Social Security, Medicare, Supplement, Drugs, Vision, Dental, FedEx and a page with all the logon/passwords for each of the above plan you decide to go with.

Irene Williams3/30/2016

Good info. Also, I have found that the $85/mo contribution to the account has been drawn down to $0 already in just 3 months. So now, paperwork must be filled out for reimbursements.

Jimmy Glenn Burk3/30/2016

Irene, if all the money has been drawn down in the account, what is the reimbursements filed for? thx jimmy
