Larry Ratliff His doubling his Life Insurance days before with double indemnity for accidental death and his children as beneficiaries along with weapons which would leave wounds consistent with an airplane crash as opposed to a bullet wound would suggest that he was going to try and stage an accident as opposed to crashing into the Hub which would have been an obvious act of Air Piracy, nullifying his Insurance. The crashing into Hub story is just too dramatic and sensational for many to let go of.

I know all the members of the crew and Auburn and how extraordinarily difficult he made their lives from that point on! To roll a fully loaded, fully fueled aircraft midair was something never done before but it saved all the souls in that airplane and helped knock Auburn off his feet! David was the hero he was made out to be with the assistance of the others. Auburn was a coward and CONTINUES TO BE ONE to this day!!

I I worked at the Western Region HQ in Sacramento then. My manager was getting direct updates by phone that day from a friend involved in MEM. I remember it vividly. The actions taken by that crew were heroic and amazing.

I heard that each director was recently given a quota based on the number of employees they had, and that they were going by seniority in the MD group...that management didn't get input into the process....or so I heard. One MD had 10 asking for the buyout but his quota was 3.

May 31st employees leaving FedEx. May I recommend that you do not bring that stuff home. I am sitting in my garage going through old boxes of folders, rusty paper clips and such. I am helping a friend clean out his/her attic. I have a pretty good size shred pile. This friend is/was not a FedEx employee but the type of papers are familiar to many of us. I see decades of project info and inter-office memos you’ll never look at again unless you get another job similar to the one you are leaving and your family will not care about this information. Hence the need to clean out the attic. 😊

I whittled mine down to 2 boxes. One is general/generic project and management related information that I'm sure I'll eventual burn in my wood heater here in the fabulous mountains of northern Arizona and the other is a box of Chatskis (some of which never made it to the 'public'). . . Hoping I can sell those on eBay(?) and make enough to fund my final days in care facility. . . . (?) I'll probably forget that I have them.

This is just my opinion, but for now I will rollover my Portable Pension to a Traditional IRA with Vanguard. They have the same investment choices that we currently have with our 401k and that is plenty for me!

Taxes will continue to rise . the sooner we pay them the better off we will be. 401 k’s We’re great assuming you will be in a much lower tax bracket when you retire. Do the math and figure out when to take the money out. Seriously taxes have never gone down in history, right?

Every person’s financial situation is different so you should consult with an advisor who can truly asses your individual situation - don’t take advice from Facebook. Look for an independent, fee based advisor who doesn’t sell any products to get unbiased advice. When considering my buyout I used Celia Brugge at Dogwood Financial and she was great.

Very True! Many of these comments are out of the scope of a Financial Advisor and these questions need answers from a Tax Advisor and NOT a Financial Advisor. I guess that I do not mind listening to advice from others, whether it is Financial Advice, Tax Advice, or someone recommending someone to me. I ALWAYS followup with research on my own and then make a decision on the facts that I gather.

I couldn’t find pricing on the website and phone calls were transferred to different departments, none that could answer my questions. I don’t understand why you can’t see pricing until COBRA expires. Thanks!

If you can keep what you have or look into Farm Bureau for $39 a month. I went on Aon dental for one year and there was A 12 month wait. period to have anything done.Plus they hardly covered anything. my husband just moved to Medicare, and I purchased Farm Bureau dental which has no wait period, and his Medicare supplement insurance as well.

I went with the dental assistance plan for $13 a month. It pays for all of my cleanings and checkups so after my first checkup I am already ahead of the game having saved more on that visit than I will spend on premiums for the year. I wtill have another cleaning and checkup later this year and so will be even better off. Too bad the medical doesn't work that way......

Just a tip: I have had neither dental nor vision insurance since I was laid off 10 years ago. I get regular eye exams at Sam’s Club for $60 and they are very thorough. if I ever had a problem with my eyes I could see a specialist and it would be covered on my health insurance.
I get “uninsured” discounts at my dentist and don’t really miss the insurance because it has an annual cap anyway.

When you receive a message you have a package on the truck a map appears and you can follow the little UPS truck icon’s every stop. I would think this would have people coming to you for their pkgs. That’s what I did today and he was grateful! Hope we aren’t lagging in this area.

Good Memories:
In '80 or '81, I get a call from Jim Barksdale. Go figure out why the SuperHub has a 90% missort rate. The SuperHub wasn't active, but 25k packages a night were diverted to it to test out the new sort controllers and diverters. So, I had to go in each night and start figuring. It took about a week to figure out all the problems. I got the chance to work with some fine people and characters: Mike Basch, Karl Birkholz, Tom Glaser, Ken Willoughby and many others. It was a great to work with other areas of the company. I don't know who coined the phrase, but watching the SuperHub work was like watching Controlled Chaos. I was there long enough to be able to do my own Hub tours for IT vendors for several years. At the end of working out the hub issues, they were kind enough to give me a SuperHub computer award and my own Superman/SuperHub t-shirt.

Fred Curcio nope its appears to be two things I have noticed. Hardly anyone in the field got it . ( shows Fedex is always lean or under staffed in field ) . Two very few lower salary peeps got it. Seems it's more designed to reward upper salary folks .As a old Co worker of mine would say the valued employees . Wallstreet was given a much larger idea of employees who would be eligible . In the end it was very targeted . All this just to raise the stock price back up.

I retired last year with 25 years in HCMP & Recruitment. Was a little disappointed to find out I left too soon and missed the buyout. It looks like HR was not a targeted group. I feel sorry for those that were disappointed. FedEx however has blessed all retirees with much more having part a part of the FedEx family. Retirement life is great.

Need advice regarding retirees still on FedEx Retiree Health plan....at the first of January, we were advised, if we watched a video regarding FedEx Connect your Care, an additional $100 would be deposited into our HRA? I have confirmation numbers of where we watched on January 9 for myself and my husband. The confirmation said allow 10 days for the credit to display. To date, it has not been....I have called the ConnectYourCare number twice (first of Feb and end of March) and spoken to reps both times that reassured me they saw the confirmation and to give it 5 to 10 days to apply.....anyone else have this experience?

I remember making a Cat3 approach into MEM back in 1994 on the night the ice storm hit. The pilots had their laminated Cat3 checklist placards in front of them, and I took comfort from the jumpseat in knowing that my dad, Buddy Sandiford, had helped to write and publish them — so I knew we’d be ok! After we touched down on the runway (full emergency vehicles at the ready) the captain told me they practice all year in the simulator just for that one landing, and then he asked “does anyone want to do any do-nuts”? 😜🙏

Karen Sandiford Roberson a normal ILS approach is clearance to fly the approach to a decision height 200 ft above the runway and 1/2 mile visibility. A CATIII ILS, follows the same path but if certified, you are cleared to 50 ft above the runway and 600 ft visibility.
I’ve only personally flown to minimums of 300ft and a mile. Nerve wrecking if you don’t do it all the time.

Mary Drummond unfortunately for those of us who were accepted, we are being told just that, that our contributions are not important and thus we were allowed to go. Really has been handled very badly from all sides. I hope management is properly trained to deal with the fallout. I’m truly sorry for those who were denied. But those of us who were accepted and gave our blood, sweat and tears to this company are not leaving on a high note either. It could have been handled so much better.

I had just celebrated 30 years of my life with the company (I started when I was 21) when I lost my job in 2009; and even though I got re-hired and have been back 7 years, the company views me as a 7-year employee rather than a 37 year employee. The HRA provides a one‐time credit which can be used until May 31, 2025 to obtain reimbursement for qualified health care expenses including COBRA premiums and/or the cost to purchase certain other health insurance coverage.
Expenses incurred prior to the date you become a participant will not be eligible for reimbursement.

Terry Smedley I guess I misunderstood you. The RHPA Acct never expires but cannot be used to pay for Cobra. The VBO HRA lasts for six years and can be used for Cobra. You can stay on Cobra for 18 months, then go to other Health Care including Retirement Health Care if you are Eligible.

Once you leave you will not have access to that information and historically it has been very difficut to talk to someone, typically a vendor who can answer your questions and I don't know anyone who has been able to talk to someone from FedEx. Then again, communication may be better for currect Buy Out recipients.

From the last buyout, we were told we would have access to our verbal Q&A's from a webcast and it never happened. While in this week of the actual buyout how is this insurance of cobra going to cover any emergencies that may occur to any of you that took the recent buyout.
Anyone aware of the sign up process that may be needed to get on Cobra?
A friend of mine was advised to just pay cash then they could get reimbursed once the sign up process is completed.Thanks for any information regarding Cobra 🐍 that you may be aware of.Seems like there is a gap that should not have occurred idk.

Once Fedex notifies COBRA, you can notify them and sign up. It will be retroactive to June 1st. You probably should consider keeping Cobra for the entire 18 months as the premium is less than Retirement Health Care.

Pat, I retired 18 months ago so your buyout deal may be different but COBRA was only good for 18 months and was not reimbursable. I will now go with FedEx retiree insurance which will be reimbursable but much more costly. You should receive communication soon to make your choice. I inquired and was worried that I would not be covered during the interim but was assured I would be covered as long as I chose either cobra or retiree policy within 30 days. Congratulations on your retirement!

The biggest problem I am having is with getting reimbursed from the VBO HRA account. I put the claim in on 6/6, and on Monday of this week, it showed denied due to not being eligible. I called in, and the agent initially said Cobra premiums were not eligible. She looked again and then agreed they were eligible and opened a ticket. Was told it would take another 3-5 business days.

You can setup your Cobra account at benedirect.wageworks.com as well as pay for it. Unfortunately you cannot make a payment with a credit card only e-check from your checking account. This means you will have to submit a claim to get reimbursed from your VBO HRA account. Don’t expect your insurance to kick in right away either. I requested an urgent activation be sent to Blue Cross Blue Shield on Thursday, called back today and nothing had been done. I am tying to be patient but wish people would do what they say they will do. Hopefully today’s call will get it done.

Caddel it now shows that they recd my receipts and that reimbursement is in process so I guess they will accept what I sent. I set it up as a recurring online bill pay. when I receive the email from my bank that it has been paid, I will then send that for reimbursement. That is the easiest way I can do it if they won’t let us charge directly to the ysa card

I have had two people at Hewitt tell me I am eligible for Cobra. I finally told the supervisor at Hewitt that I am not stupid and to please stop treating me like she thought I was. I know at 65 you can't get Cobra for medical. Geez! Hopefully, I will hear something tomorrow. 48 hours is the maximum resolution time. So we shall see.

Angela Maynard I had cataract surgery in both eyes and then 5 years later, I had 3 detached retinas. I was told that you are 5 times more likely to get a detached retina if you have had cataract surgery. So know the symptoms of a detached retina and immediately go see a retina specialist if you have the symptoms!!

I retired last year and went on Medicare. My Medicare advisor found everything I needed as supplements that are covered by the FedEx reimbursement account. I use Manhattan Life policy for Dental, vision & hearing. Haven’t used any of hearing but it covered eye/contact exam & contacts and cleanings & fillings first year @ 60 %. 2nd year is 70% and continues higher each year and covers crowns 2nd year. $100 deductible each year total. You can enroll into Medicare Parts A and B. When you are first eligible for Medicare, you have a 7-month Initial Enrollment Period to sign up for Part A and/or Part B. (3 months before the month of your 65th birthday, the month of your birthday, and 3 months after your 65th birthday). If you don't sign up during that window, your Medicare premiums could be higher. If you choose to get a Supplement plan, you will have to purchase a separate Part D plan (drug). Here's my 2 cents worth. If you are in good health, which I am, I recommend an Advantage plan. Advantage plans cover Parts A, B, and D. Most Advantage plans also cover vision and dental. The premium you will pay, over and above what Medicare deducts from your Social Security, is much less. The premium for a Supplement plan increases each year as you age. The premium for my Advantage plan for my area is $25 per month. I've been with Humana since I went onto Medicare in 2013. I hope this helps.

The rep with whom i tried to work wants me to pay the cost on the front end and submit documentation. The last time that I had to do this it was questionable regarding what was accepted. The question that I have is whether it will be resolved bu Oct of this year. That is when my ysa card becomes a pumpkin.

In the Knowledge Center of the Reimbursement website, there is a document called HRA Summary Plan Description. In this document there are dates that indicate that my HRA account will automatically terminate on May 31 2019 and any used credits will be forfeited. My card also has a 10/19 date on it. Built in 1971, this is the oldest DC-10 still flying and is the oldest aircraft in the fleet! This is the 6th DC10 to roll off the production line, but was delivered to United in July of 1971. By 1997, Fedex had bought it and converted it to Cargo and in 2006, Fedex converted this DC10 to an MD-10 (upgraded avionics). After 47 years of service, here she is landing/ departing Montreal on a regular cargo route from Memphis!Also, I talked to one of our aircraft mechanic yesterday and he said we were retrieving several aircraft from the desert boneyard because we were short on lift.

Hmm, I just used fedex.com to check ground rates from Akron to Quebec for 18 lbs. The list price shows $45.06. Did you ship express? Express list rate shows $212. 75% reduction on that is $53. I don't know if there are residential surcharges or other extras. So, if we know the service and if it's a residential delivery, we can easily see if it was discounted. Thanks! Mark

Miracles!! Got call from YSA supervisor that my 2 claims (for June and July Cobra premiums) are now approved!!!
I checked online and saw Direct Deposit for both are on their way!!
What a relief!!

Laverne Deanes I just submitted again yesterday. I used the ReimburseMe app on my iPhone. It was easy enough after I sorted out a password issue.

Steven Caddel what type of password issue did you have? I haven’t been able to use the app for the last couple of weeks. It tells me that I have an invalid password, but I am using the same password as the website.

Allen Bell Ok, here is what I learned about he password. There are two websites. There is the FedEx Retirement website, and the Your Spending Account website. The ReimburseMe app is tied to the FedEx Retirement account, which doesn't make sense to me, but that's what it is. I haven't been on the FedEx Retirement account for while. When I logged in, it forced me to change the password. After I changed the password on that website, and updated my ReimburseMe app to that password, the app worked fine. I hope this helps.

Hi Barbara , I retired in the second wave of 2013 and had a few issues with YSA in the beginning and had to call a couple of times .
Once I got things rolling I was usually reimbursed within 3-5 days after filing

Same problem here. Submitted documentation on 6/11. Used secure message to ask status and got e-mail yesterday stating they opened a research ticket.
