The Joy of having InsuranceCut my finger, a 1" flap of skin hanging, went to minor medical...they don't do cuts now, but did wrap it for me and directed me to emergency roomWent to emergency room, got seen initially, then waited 4.5 hours, did get to talk to Gary Phillips while thereOne xray, a tetanus shot, pain medicine and 13 stitches later, got out of hospital in less than 6 hoursBill $1,910.60Discount for having insurance 1028.67
Ins paid 144.53; I pay $737.40They said I could come back in 10 days and get sutures removed....Not wanting to wait in hospital all day, I got on Youtube and watched "How to remove Sutures", then bought a $10 kit and removed them myself....I may even put the stitches in myself next time...................
Ben Moore6/18/2015
The minor medical folks are all affiliated with a hospital system now. They'd rather you go to their hospital and charge $1910 than serve you in the minor medical facility for $100. My 92 year old mother fell and cut her hand. The MD at the Methodist affiliated minor medical wouldn't even let her in the door literally but were quick to refer her to the nearby Methodist hospital where she sat for hours to see a nurse practitioner. Ridiculous. Big business!.
John McCorkle6/18/2015
I cut my finger last month, went to urgent care facility and they put two stitches in. I think I had to wait about 20 minutes at the most. Haven't gotten the bill yet.
Jimmy Glenn Burk6/18/2015
the minor medical people thought my cut may have been deeper, and wouldnt look at it, I know they won't look at head injuries either at minor medical facilities.... it seems our insurance used to charge us $100 for emergency room visits, and maybe 30 percent....those days are long gone....
Deby Abbott Jolley6/18/2015
Health insurance is now as complicated as (if not more than) income taxes. There is no way to have any idea how much it's going to cost to go to a doctor or emergency room - other than: A LOT.

FedEx Random Trivia Quiz (Answer any of these...)
1. If you are about to be caught buying or selling drugs on company property....how do you save your job?
In the early days if you got into a drug recovery program before your were approached, it gained you some time.
2. Are you automatically fired if a gun is found in your car, on company property?
I think the answer when I worked was Yes, but not now.
3. Can you get your job back if fired for carrying a gun?
I have heard of some getting hired back, but they were a new hire.
4. How long can a knife be, to be carried on company property?
5. Can you ship personal packages on a company account number and not be fired?
I've seen a few people get a second chance, but if intentional you would be fired.
6. Can you falsify something and keep your job?
No
7. Is the GFT process always Fair?
I think the company does reviews all the way up to a rotating SVP committee to review. I've been to a couple these meetings, and at that level they look at opportunities to save peoples jobs, if it doesn't overturn past legal practices; but the vast majority of lower decisions are upheld.
8. What year approximately did professional men humanoids get to stop wearing ties? and under whose reign? I think it was around 1992, when Dennis Jones got a business casual ok from FWS.
9. What was the first major Unix project deployed at FedEx?
GOCC as far as I know.
10. In the mid 90's what was the IT capital budget for Air Ops?
a. $10M b. $20M c. $50M d. $100M
Answer was D. $100M out of almost a $1B capital budget for AOD
11. Can you ship packages for your business or for someone else on your personal shipping Account Number?
not for business, and you can for someone else if it benefits the employee
